    THE WAKHAN JOURNEY

Our curation of the The Wakhan Journey is based on choosing works offering a perspective into a world that we may otherwise miss the subtleties, the beauty, or the horrors of. The selection is not meant to be literal or restrictive in any way of the content, since the fundamental belief is that art has greater value in engaging its viewer and communicating a message more powerful then words.

With this mission in mind, we are excited to announce this inaugural exhibit featuring Varial and Nadjari’s experience. Friends since childhood, the two embarked on a journey last year across a mountainous corridor connecting Afghanistan and China. There work captures the magic of this barren land as they traveled on foot for over five weeks and 300 kilometers in extreme conditions earning the respect of the locals and sharing stories that will last a life time.

We believe the journey must be told- both visually and verbally. The photography and short-videos provide an intimate introduction to the people and places that have come to define their experience, and allows us to reimagine the contemporary understanding of Afghanistan and its people.
